Working longer than 8 hours day, repeatedly, has been proven to lead to burnout and mental fatigue. Thus, overall productivity is affected. If you want to increase productivity at work, maintain a regimen of 8 hours in which you are focused and sharp.Once you feel your focus slipping, and you are no longer thinking straigh t, give your brain a break. Burning out today will affect your ability to remain focused for the next day, which affects the quality of your work. You love what you do, so remain productive for the long-term. Avoid burnout. Not sleeping enoughThe most effective way to increase productivity at work is to sleep, not at work, but when it is time to rest at home. Not getting enough sleep can have the same effect on a person as a 0.10 blood alcohol level. You will experience low productivity in the workplace because not sleeping leads to headaches and leaves people mora prone to making mistakes. Tired people are distracted easily and cannot focus on tasks for a long period of time. How to Be a Better Leader at Work

How to Be a Better Leader at Work How to Be a Better Leader at Work Whether you’re the boss or part of a team, it’s always possible to be a leader. In fact, leadership is very different from being in charge. You can show leadership through your actions no matter what position you hold. Ultimately, being a   leader  may help you make your way to a position of authority, but that’s not the only career benefit. You’ll find that people want to work with leaders, so if you can show leadership, many career opportunities could open up for you. Be the best employee possible. Come in early and leave late. Be eager, open, and excited about every opportunity presented to you. Every piece of advice above may sound hokey, but the best leaders are willing to fully commit themselves. That doesn’t mean you should work yourself to death or even try to be the   hardest worker  in every situation. Instead, you need to establish a pattern of hard work. You want to get to the point where your bosses and co-workers simply understand that you can be counted on and that you’ll always be there when needed. In my first season working a paying job at the summer camp I had long attended, my boss showed us how to solve some basic plumbing problems. As you might imagine, that was not always pleasant work. Some of my coworkers always seemed to be busy when a clogged toilet needed to be fixed. Others, however, were always willing to jump in when needed. That’s something the boss noted and appreciated . It’s also something every employee noticed, and while some were happy to get out of a miserable job, most appreciated the effort. The old hackneyed line is to dress for the job you want, not the one you have. That’s often not possible depending on the work you do, but Mark Sanborn, president of  Sanborn & Associates Inc., explained how to dress to be seen as a leader in a   guest post  on Entrepreneur.com. “Don’t dress to impress, dress to influence ,” he wrote. “That means making sure your appearance is consistent with your personal and professional brand. Begin by asking yourself how a leader with your aspirations should appear to others.” Leaders support the people they work with and liberally share credit. They also acknowledge that good ideas don’t have to come from them. A willingness not to be right is a major part of showing leadership. It’s hard to respect a leader who leads from behind the scenes. To establish yourself as a leader , you need to be on front lines along with everyone else. That’s not always possible when you become the boss and need to be more hands-off. However, if you’ve gained your reports’ respect by showing that you’re willing to do any job, regardless of your status, then it will be easier to ask them to handle tough jobs without you. People are more likely to follow leaders who have proven they’re not afraid to get their hands dirty. Leadership isn’t about your title. It comes from actions and attitude. Act like a leader, and soon enough, you will be one.

Loan Agreement FAQ - United States

Loan Agreement FAQ - United States Loan Agreement FAQ - United States DefinitionsWho is the Borrower? The Borrower is the person or corporation that receives value (money, property or some service) from the Lender on the condition that the Borrower will pay the principal amount plus any interest to the Lender at sometime in the future. Who is the Lender? The Lender is the person or corporation that gives something of value (money, property or some service) to the Borrower on condition that the Lender will be paid a certain amount in the future. What is the governing law for a Loan Agreement? The governing law is the law of the jurisdiction in which the Loan Agreement will be entered into. Often the parties select the jurisdiction where the Lender resides. If the Loan Agreement relates to the purchase of certain assets, then the location of those assets is selected. What is the Principal amount? The principal is the original amount of the loan that is owed by the Borrower to the Lender on the date the Loan Agreement is signed. Once the Borrower has begun to pay back the loan, the principal refers to the amount of money still owing to the Lender at any given moment in time. What is interest?Interest is an amount charged to a Borrower for the use of the Lender's money. It is usually expressed as a percentage of the amount borrowed and is calculated at a specified interval over the course of the term of the Loan Agreement. The interest rate is the annual interest rate. What does compounded mean?Compounded refers to how frequently the interest is calculated and added to the principal amount of the loan to arrive at a new balance. The more frequently the interest is calculated, the more interest the Borrower will end up paying to the Lender. What is a demand loan agreement? The balance owing in a loan agreement does not need to be repaid until the Lender demands to be repaid. In other words, the loan is repayable 'on demand'. There is no fixed end date for the repayment of the loan. Upon demand, the Borrower is given a certain period of time to repay the outstanding balance of the loan agreement. What is the Term? The Term is the time length of the loan agreement. At the end of the term, the Borrower must repay the outstanding balance of the loan. Loan Agreement DetailsI am a shareholder. Should I use the Loan Agreement or the Shareholder Loan Agreement? As a shareholder, if you are lending money to the corporation, use our Shareholder Loan Agreement. If you are borrowing money from the corporation, use our Loan Agreement. Use our promissory note if you prefer a more basic and simpler document than the Loan Agreement. Do I have to charge the Borrower interest? No, the Lender can choose whether or not to charge interest. If the Lender decides to charge interest, they can pick how much interest to charge. However, there may be tax consequences to the Lender or Borrower if interest is charged but it is not a reasonable rate. What are the payment options available? There are four options for the method of repayment. Specific periodic amounts - the Borrower will make a certain payment to the Lender on regular intervals. Lump sum payment at the end of the term - the Borrower pays nothing to the Lender until the end of the note term, at which time the Borrower repays the entire note in one payment. Interest only - the Borrower makes regular payments to the Lender that are put toward paying off the interest on the principal amount only, with no portion of the payment going towards the principal amount itself. Interest and principal - the Borrower makes regular payments to the Lender that are put toward paying off both the principal amount and the interest as it is compounded. At the end of the term of the Loan Agreement, there will be no outstanding balance to be repaid. Should the Lender require the Borrower to provide security/collateral for the note?If you do not take collateral, and the Borrower defaults on the loan, you will have to take the Borrower to court in order to recover your money and your judgment can only be enforced against certain assets of the Borrower. However, if you take collateral for the loan agreement, then you may be entitled to seize and sell the collateral if the Borrower fails to repay the loan. Does the collateral need to be equivalent in value to the amount of the loan? No, if collateral is given for the loan, it can be for any amount. If the Borrower fails to repay the note, and the collateral is worth less than the note, then the Lender can seize the collateral and sue the Borrower for the remaining amount of the loan. If the Lender recovers more than the outstanding balance from the sale of the collateral, any surplus amount would be returned to the Borrower or his other debtors depending upon the situation. Loan agreements and seller/vendor financingHow does Seller Financing work?Seller Financing is a loan from a seller to a purchaser where the purchaser does not have the cash to cover some or all of the purchase price of the asset. With Seller Financing, the asset title is transferred to the purchaser who then takes a loan from the seller and grants the seller a security interest in the purchased asset. In the case of a motor vehicle, transferring title of the asset to the purchaser allows the purchaser to acquire insurance and registration. The sole purpose of the loan is to facilitate the purchase of that particular asset. The asset itself is used by the purchaser as collateral for the loan. This means that the Seller could make a claim against the asset if the purchaser should default on one or more loan payments. Also, with Seller Financing, the purchase and sale agreement should contain as much detail as possible regarding the financing particulars including the amount to be fina nced, the term, the rate of interest and frequency of compounding, the monthly payments, the amortization period as well as any penalties for non-payment. Signing DetailsI do not know when the Loan Agreement will be signed. Can I fill in the date later?Yes, by selecting 'Unsure' as the date the agreement will be signed, a blank line will be inserted into the contract so that you can add the correct date after printing the document. Do I need witnesses to sign the Loan Agreement?Generally speaking, there is no requirement for a witness or notary public to witness the signing of the Loan Agreement. However, depending on the nature of the loan and the governing law of the jurisdiction in which you're entering into the loan, you may be required to have witnesses or a notary public witness the Loan Agreement. Even if it is not required, having an objective third party witness the signing of the loan agreement will be better evidence when you need to enforce the repayment of the loan. Signing the note in front of a notary public is the best evidence that the Borrower signed the loan agreement.

How to Write a Cookbook Proposal - Tips for Getting Started

How to Write a Cookbook Proposal - Tips for Getting Started How to Write a Cookbook Proposal - Tips for Getting Started If you want your cookbook to be published by a major publisher, you will need a platform and a book proposal. Writing a cookbook proposal requires more than just having a stash of recipes. As cookbooks include not only writing, but recipes and, most times, photographs, cookbook proposal is a has some special requirements: Your cookbook proposal should have a personal vision Julia Child wanted to codify French cooking, which she did in Mastering the Art of French Cooking. My co-author Janice Fryer and I wanted to systematize and simplify cookie decorating, which we did in Cookie Craft. More than with many other non-fiction books, readers interact with cookbooks, and help create the experience. They feel incredibly personal. So whether its sharing little-known recipes from your homeland, creating low-calorie versions of favorite meals, or allowing your customers to take home your restaurants favorite dishes, your cookbook proposal should have a consistent, identifiable concept that feels so you that only you can write it. Here are some tips for cookbook personalization. Know your audience and how they cook Is your reader a busy mom or dad with little time to spare cooking meals? Or a wannabe chef, who likes to challenge herself or himself on the weekend with 30 ingredients? Or Julia Childs audience of servantless American cooks. Its important to be able to articulate who the end user of the cookbook will be, and how your concept will appeal to them. And its essential that your recipes match your intended cooks in simplicity vs. complexity, ingredient and equipment needs, etc. If youre writing about food for campers, you dont want to include recipes that require three different pots and pans. Even better if you can make your working title really, succinctly convey the concept. If youd like some cookbook titling insights, read this case study on how a so-so cookbook title was made more appealing to a much broader market. Thoroughly test the proposal recipes As in any book proposal, your cookbook proposal will have a sample chapter -  and that sample chapter needs to include recipes. Many of the best cookbook editors can tell if a recipe will work just by reading it, and there are some who will test proposal recipes to make sure they work.  So, especially for the proposal, test the recipes you include to make sure theyre foolproof and delicious. Heres how to test cookbook recipes. Read more about recipe development: How to write cookbook recipesHow to write cookbook recipe headnotesCookbook recipe writing ethics Have an idea of your photography plan Do you envision a photo for each step of the recipe in your book, or just finished dishes? Photography (often the authors responsibility) and color printing production cost money for, so its good to have an understanding of photography costs and planning before you commit to providing 500 color photos you cant afford to produce. That is, dont underestimate the work involved for the finished cookbook. Developing a cookbook makes demands on its author that writing, say, a mystery or romance novel doesnt -  that is, not only recipe and recipe headnote writing but recipe testing and photography. The amount of author resources (time, energy, money) a cookbook takes shouldnt be underestimated. When you write a proposed number of recipes or the estimated manuscript delivery date in your proposal, make sure you understand how much time it will take to get the writing and other work done. The Importance of Flexibility at Work

The Importance of Flexibility at Work The Importance of Flexibility at Work What does workplace flexibility mean and why is it important? Flexibility on the job includes the willingness and ability to readily respond to changing circumstances and expectations. Being flexible when it comes to work is worth a lot. Employees who approach their job with a  flexible mindset  are typically more highly valued by employers.? Why Employers Value Flexible Employees Essentially, flexible employees are more valuable. Workers with an orientation towards flexibility never say, It’s not my job or Do I have to? when they are asked to take on a new assignment.  Flexible employees modify their approach to tasks based on the preferences of stakeholders and the unique demands of each situation.   Having employees willing to step outside their job description  means employers can get more accomplished. Flexible workers who are able to take on more responsibilities, do different tasks, and do more at work have more to offer their employer than employees who can only do one or two tasks. Having flexible employees means not having to find others to take on more work because flexible employees are willing to do whatever is necessary to get the task accomplished or the job done. Why Employees Value Flexible Managers Flexibility works both ways, and employees appreciate having managers who are flexible. Flexibility skills are also relevant to the approach management takes to handling employees.  Flexible managers treat employees as individuals and make an effort to accommodate personal styles and needs.   Managers who are flexible provide workers with greater latitude about the way they accomplish goals. They assess the needs of employees and provide feedback, guidance, and recognition individually to optimize performance. Being flexible is good for everyone. Share Examples During Job Interviews Flexibility is a trait most employers look for in an employee so regardless of what type of job you are applying for, it will benefit your candidacy if you can show the interviewer examples of how you are flexible and willing to change course. Take some time to write down different times you believe you were flexible at previous jobs (and be proud of yourself if it’s a long list). Get tips on how to prepare for your interview and more information on the differences between digital and traditional PR. Plus, review a list of common questions asked during interviews for PR positions.   Types of Public Relations Job Interview Questions Are you interviewing with a traditional PR agency or a digital one? If youre applying for a job at a  traditional agency, be prepared to answer questions about your  writing skills, press relationships, previous press campaigns youve worked on, and where you see PR going in the future.   At a  digital PR agency, the duties typically include operating social media channels, sending tweets, managing online communities, and conversing with companies and consumers via social media. For agency jobs, youll also get questions about the particular agency and the client they work with. Dont forget to  research the agency in advance of your interview.   If you are interviewing to do  public relations work for a company,  your interviewer might focus on trying to understand how you will craft and execute an effective public relations strategy. Common Public Relations Interview Questions Answers Personal Questions During any interview for a PR job, you can expect to be asked a number of  common interview questions, which allow interviewers to learn about your skills and experience, along with getting a sense of how youll fit in with the companys culture.  Some of these will be personal questions that solicit your opinion about your career. 1. Why do you love PR? What They Want to Know: This question gauges your enthusiasm for your career field. Give an honest response about what appeals to you about the position. The best answers will connect your passion for PR with the companys mission.  Avoid answers focused on yourself (e.g., I love going to client events and drinking cocktails for free.).   I love PR because it allows me to forward the mission, products, and services of companies I believe in. It’s a thrill to be able to use my word-crafting skills to generate great publicity for worthy causes. Expand More Answers: Tell me about yourself. 2. What is your ideal work environment? What They Want to Know:  Heres where your research on the agency or company will pay off! If the company is known for a fast-paced environment, you can mention that you work best when busy and are the kind of person whos always on email.   I like stimulating work environments, where there are always new fires to put out and problems to solve. My favorite employers have had a company culture that empathized continuous improvement. This was inspiring because it was impossible to ever be bored â€" there were always new ways to improve one’s skills. Expand More Answers: Do you work well on a team? 3. Why should we hire you? What They Want to Know: This question is an opportunity for you to make your case for yourself as a candidate. You can talk about your qualities (hard worker, skilled communicator), but try to provide evidence of how youve been an asset in previous positions. See more tips for  responding to, Why should we hire you?” Im a skilled communicator and passionate about helping my clients get a positive media reception. In my position at ABC agency, I was able to increase [client names] mentions in the press 30% from one quarter to the next. Expand More Answers: Describe yourself in three words.  Questions About Public Relations Be prepared to demonstrate your practical knowledge of public relations, communications technologies, agency structures, and client relations. Your answers should be tailored to demonstrate how your public relations expertise would be a tremendous asset to the employer. Use your answers to redirect the conversation to the agencys culture, its mission, the clients it works with, and its overall approach to public relations. Be specific in describing how your own approach aligns with theirs. 4. When responding to media and public inquiries, what question do you find most difficult to answer? What They Want to Know: This question evaluates how well you can “think on your feet.” Be honest in your response. If you say you do not find any questions difficult to answer, it can seem like youre prevaricating. But be strategic: do not mention a question that youre likely to receive regularly in this role.   I don’t like questions from hot-heads that seek only to criticize our organization. I try to defuse these with wry humor, accompanied by hard facts that forcefully refute the criticism. Expand More Answers: How do you handle stress and pressure? 5. What does “public relations” mean to you? What They Want to Know:  Since there are many types of public relations work, from managing social campaigns to promoting celebrities to crisis management, it makes sense for your answer to acknowledge that there are a lot of types of PR work. Then, you can pivot to talking about the one youre most experienced in, and connect it back to the company or agency that youre interviewing with. Get a sense for  how the industries differ  here.   While I’m well-versed in most types of PR, my favorite vehicle for building relationships with the public is social media. Studies have shown that younger, technology-savvy generations are most attracted by engagement marketing â€" and social media is a powerful tool for maintaining dialogues with one’s public base. Expand More Answers: What motivates you? 6. What sources of media do you follow regularly, and why those ones? What They Want to Know: As well as general PR news outlets and social media feeds, it makes sense to mention media sources in your area of expertise or the agencys focus. Since my work is focused on celebrity publicity, I’m the first to read new issues of People magazine. Expand More Answers: How are you different from your competition? Questions About Digital PR If youre interviewing for a digital PR job, be ready to answer questions about your experience with SEO, content creation, channels, audience interaction, and social media crisis management.   7. Why do you use social media to help your clients? What They Want to Know: Share an example that puts you in a good light. Remember, numbers can always be a meaningful way to tell a story. If you helped a client gain followers, share the before-and-after numbers, for instance.   I find social media to be the best way to help newly-launched companies build a client base. This particularly works for organizations like restaurants â€" I helped one client build a Facebook following from zero to 600 followers within the first week of the page launch, and this translated into immediate customer lines at his store. Expand More Answers: What applicable experience do you have? 8. What are your favorite social media platforms? What They Want to Know: Theres no wrong answer here, but its likely best to avoid being negative about any platform. Frame your answer not around your own interactions with the platform personally, but around how its beneficial to clients. Now that Instagram has introduced commerce options, Ive been able to help [client name] drive more sales. Expand More Answers: Tell me about the trends in your profession and industry. 9. Describe a social media crisis you had. How did you handle it? What They Want to Know: In your answer, youll want to briefly summarize the situation. Then, talk about what you did. Finally, talk about the results. This is known as the  STAR method, and it helps you give a coherent, meaningful response. A client’s product needed to be recalled. We had a strategy on hand for this kind of situation, which we modified to fit the circumstances. We had a conference call with the client, who was initially reluctant to make statements online. We explained why that was a mistake, using case studies from recalls done by similar companies. In the ends, since we got ahead of negative press this wound up being a PR win. Expand More Answers: What have you learned from your mistakes? Additional Questions About Public Relations Other common questions about public relations a hiring manager might ask could include: What are the advantages of an in-house public relations department? What are the disadvantages of hiring a public relations firm?Whats the difference between public relations and advertising? Why do companies need public relations? How do you measure the results of a PR campaign? Why are exhibitions at trade shows popular? In what direction do you see the public relations industry heading? What personality characteristics are most important to be successful in public relations?Do you believe there is a communications crisis right now? What do you like about our PR  agency? Tips for Acing a Public Relations Interview Do your homework.  Research the agency you’re interviewing with, their clients, and their history of success in the industry so that you will be able to focus your conversation on their needs and demonstrate how you would be a collegial, dedicated, and productive contributor to their organization. Share your achievements.  Before you go into the interview, make a list of your most successful public relations accomplishments and projects and how you have helped to meet a client’s goals. Be ready to support these achievements with quantifiable statistics like percentages, numbers, or dollar figures. Be prepared for behavioral interview questions. You will likely be asked a number of  behavioral interview questions  about how you’ve handled certain work situations in the past. For example, you might be asked how you have dealt with a social media crisis or a client getting poor press. The idea behind these questions is that how you responded and tackled a situation in the past will give the interviewer insight into how you might behave on the job. Here are a few examples: Tell me about a time you had to persuade someone to do something at work. How did you achieve this?Give me an example of how you creatively solved a problem at work.Tell me about a print campaign you have worked on? Prepare for situational interview questions. Situational interview questions are similar to behavioral interview questions, as they are questions about work experiences. However, situational interview questions are about how you would handle future situations rather than past situations. For example, an interviewer might ask how you would interact with the press in a given situation. Other examples include: How would you communicate with a reporter? What would you do if you disagreed with a client about strategy?Describe how you might put together a pitch for one of our clients. How would you balance advocacy and objectivity in PR? How to Ace the Interview REVIEW COMMON PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERVIEW QUESTIONS: Understand the difference between traditional and digital public relations agencies, and be ready to answer questions appropriate to either one (depending upon which type you are targeting).RESEARCH THE EMPLOYER: Learn as much as you can about the hiring agency before the interview, including its history in the industry, its major clients, and its key PR successes.KNOW YOUR NUTS AND BOLTS: Be ready to discuss how you would structure a public relations strategy, communicate with clients, and manage a traditional or digital campaign.

What to Know About Interning with the NBA

What to Know About Interning with the NBA What to Know About Interning with the NBA Brandon Mefford says that he was fortunate to win Experience, Inc.s “Exclusive Experience” to attend the all-expenses paid NBA Job Fair last year. How to Leverage a Side Hustle to Support Your Dream Job

How to Leverage a Side Hustle to Support Your Dream Job How to Leverage a Side Hustle to Support Your Dream Job People typically start a side hustle with one of two goals in mind: to make extra money and/or to gain more experience  in a field. Both of these are great reasons to take on a side hustle, but there is one more that people dont often talk about: taking on a side hustle to support a dream job. Lets face it: Dream jobs are not always the best-paying jobs, especially in the creative world. Sometimes it takes a long time to even get your dream job - and you have bills to pay in the meantime. A side hustle is a great way to fund your dream job goals, whether that means supporting yourself while you pursue an artistic career or putting food on the table while you work your way up the corporate ladder. Follow these tips to leverage a side hustle to support your dream job: 1. Save as Much Money as Possible As mentioned above, the  No. 1 reason people start a side hustle is to make more money, and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem  arises when people make more money only to spend more money. This is fine if your side hustle  only exists to  bring in extra cash, but when your side hustle is  a means to support your dream job, you need to remember whats important: saving money to make your dreams come true. Fortunately, the best way to save more money is to make more money. Use that extra money  from your side hustle to create a nest egg for yourself. Once you have enough money saved up, invest it in yourself. Use the cash you earned to fund something that will help you get closer to your dream job. For example, if you really want to become a painter, utilize your side hustle to put food on the table, a roof over your head, and paint supplies in your workspace. Investing in yourself can provide a higher ROI than any stock ever could. When you are tempted to spend money frivolously, remind yourself of your long-term goals. A lot of young entrepreneurs get caught up in the lifestyle of successful businessmen without the actual success part. They think spending money frivolously will impress people or help them connect with successful people. Smart people can spot this playacting from a mile away. Be humble and live within your means. This is much more impressive than racking up credit card debt. 2. Prioritize Your Time Working toward your dream job  while working a side hustle sucks up a lot of hours in a day. Add in time to spend with your family and friends and the whole thing can seem downright impossible. Do not let this stop you from achieving your dreams. Audit your schedule and figure out how much time you need to accomplish your goals. Be careful not to get caught up in pointless meetings or unproductive networking events. Say no to activities, events, or time-wasters that  dont help you reach your goals. In addition, be sure to allocate cooldown periods dedicated to doing absolutely nothing. Taking regularly time off will improve your mental fortitude, reduce stress, and possibly unlock new ideas. 3. Establish Boundaries Going full throttle from the time you get up to the time you go to bed is not sustainable. If you go too hard in the beginning, you will burn out well before you reach the finish line. It is important to set boundaries and limit the number of hours you spend on your side hustle. That way, you will remember to make time for whats really important: your dream job. Remind yourself why you are side-hustling and what you hope to accomplish. If you need a breather, that is okay. Step away and focus on something else for a bit. Likewise, establish boundaries with family and friends. Sometimes this means cutting out certain friends completely. This can be really hard, but it  may be necessary if your friends are not helping you reach your goals. 4. Pick a Side Hustle that Teaches You New Skills One of the best reasons to take on a side hustle is to learn new skills. If there is a skill you are lacking that you will need for your dream job, use your side hustle as a learning opportunity. One particular skill will help you shine anywhere: networking. Its essential for almost every entrepreneur. If you hope to capture your dream job, you had better start networking right away. The best way to practice networking is to talk to as many people as possible, including strangers. Youll need to push yourself outside of your comfort zone to really master networking. Driving for a ridesharing service  is a great side hustle for  polishing your networking skills. As a driver, you will interact with countless passengers. Some of them will want to talk, some of them wont. When someone does want to talk, use that as an opportunity to work on your active listening skills. Who knows - you might have someone who can make your dreams come true in the back seat of your car. Another example of a side-hustle that can teach you valuable skills is running a drop-shipping website. In order to be successful at drop shipping, you will need to learn marketing, web development, copywriting, and a slew of other important skills. 5. Use Your Side Hustle as a Networking Opportunity As mentioned above, side hustles are great ways to meet new people who may be able to help you with your dream job. The people you meet as clients, customers, and suppliers during your side hustle may be the key to getting your foot in the door with a dream company or industry. For example, as an Uber or Lyft driver, you can talk to dozens of people every day. Practice making good conversation. Listen to your passengers stories, ask open-ended questions, and learn to pick up on verbal queues. When you meet someone  who might be a good connection, casually hand them a business card. Dont be pushy. If rideshare driving is not for you, there are networking opportunities with basically any side hustle. Examples include being a babysitter, dog walker, or  web developer.  All of these occupations will likely connect you with successful people who could be valuable members of your network. 6. Practice Your Leadership Skills Even if your dream job does not involve management, leadership skills like charisma and high emotional  intelligence are some of the most important qualities a person can have. People with these qualities are the people you want to talk to, follow on social media, and buy things from. Becoming a leader in your industry is a viable way to get your dream job.  Leadership is about confidence, and you can build your confidence by getting out of your comfort zone. Side hustles are great ways to push your own boundaries and build your confidence. 7. Fill Resume Gaps When you are applying for  a position, hiring managers are going to ask about any gaps in your employment history. To avoid being judged for employment lapses and possibly being denied your dream job, fill that resume gap with a side hustle. Not sure if your side hustle is relevant  to the position you are applying for? It probably is. Running a small side hustle involves skills that are transferable to almost any career. Highlight your side hustle experience on your resume. Discuss how the skills you learned translate to your dream job. - In summary, I want to stress that a side hustle doesnt have to be some sort passion project. It is perfectly acceptable to take on a side hustle just to make money, especially if that extra money will be invested in yourself. Sometimes your dream job simply doesnt make enough money to be sustainable on its own. Taking on a lucrative side hustle can help you supplement your income until the day your dream job becomes profitable enough to leave your side hustle behind entirely. Brett Helling is the head of  Ridester.
